How we reused wasted concrete to make Christmas trees

Over the past 17 years, Solus Decor has become synonymous with contemporary style, sophistication and of course, high quality. But what you might not know is that we operate very much under the adage of reduce, reuse, recycle. Often however, this kind of philosophy is met with logic and calculation, until now.

Recently, we were approached by renowned local artist, Robert Studer. He came to us wondering if there was a way to reuse our wasted concrete. Normally, we would recycle this concrete into road fill but he had the ingenious idea of turning it into artful Christmas trees for the Vancouver Circle Craft Show. Clearly, we agreed.

As you can see above, the base of the trees were made from leftover concrete from the end of our batches that we poured over the course of a few weeks for Robert. From this, he was able to make 40 trees in total. The bases have been covered with white tissue for effect.

The idea to make these Christmas trees was ingenious and we’re so grateful he asked us to be a part of this art project. This definitely ties in well with the Climate Smart program that we are a part which teaches us how to reduce our carbon footprint.

So you see, not only are our fire pits and fireplaces beautiful on the outside, they’re environmentally sound on the inside.
